HUMPIN' AROUND: SCORPIO NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE

A Solar Eclipse in the transformative, sexual, intense sign of Scorpio comes on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Eclipses are cosmic “resets” that align us with our higher selves. The shifts eclipses bring are fated — i.e., the changes would have happened anyway, but an eclipse expedites the process.

Usually, solar eclipses bring destined new beginnings and opportunities, whereas lunar eclipses tend to catalyze fated endings or breakdowns that lead to breakthroughs. This Solar Eclipse in Scorpio is different: Because the transiting South Node is now in Scorpio, we’re collectively moving away from low-level Scorpionic energy, and moving toward the North Node, where grounded, stable, solid Taurus now resides. Thus, this Solar Eclipse in Scorpio is about releasing what no longer serves our highest selves, so we can soar like the eagle — and land on solid, rich, fertile (Taurean) ground.

The Sun and Moon this Solar Eclipse will be joined by Venus in an almost exact triple conjunction. With the planet of love featuring so prominently this Solar Eclipse, we’re asked to release old ways of relating to ourselves and others.

Venus is not happiest in Scorpio, the sign in which she’s detriment. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto, which are best at fighting and destroying, respectively. On a good day, this makes Scorpionic love passionate, deep, and intense. On another day, one that could be labeled as “hell,” it can make us obsessive, compulsive, and suspicious. That’s what we’re moving away from this eclipse — low-level Scorpionic energy in our relationships.

Back in 1992, Bobby Brown alluded to Scorpionic love issues in his song, “Humpin’ Around.” “Actually a pledge of monogamy,” said Steve Morse of The Boston Globe, the song stories a man who tells his girl repeatedly, “Ain’t nobody humpin’ around,” i.e., he’s not cheating on her. But she’s not having it. Her suspicions are driving the singer nuts and starting to test his resolve. Her unfounded fears of his infidelity are about to be manifested if she doesn’t calm down.

CONTROL FREAK

His girlfriend in the song sounds very Scorpionic. She’s clearly obsessed with the idea that he’s being unfaithful. She’s calling his friends, checking his phone messages (per the video), and starting fights with him for no good reason. Though on the surface, her behavior may not seem logical, it is psycho-logical, because there is a logic to the psyche: Her paranoia is a defense mechanism because she doesn’t want to be hurt. She wants to be in control and in charge of the administration of pain that she believes is inevitable. Subconsciously, she’s inclined to instigate her own heartbreak, so it doesn’t come out of the blue and be so traumatic. She wants to destroy her expectations herself, so that she’s not destroyed by somebody else again. What she doesn’t realize is that she’s caught in a past trauma — stuck at the “scene of the crime” — and unable to see beyond the past wreckage. She doesn’t realize that she can change the storyline. To do so, she must “die” and release past hurts, pains, and betrayals (heal her heart) and decide on a new fate — one of blissful, wedded coffee-making, perhaps.

We all prevent a new storyline to feature in our lives to some extent. The logic is that “when I’m in control, I can’t be hurt.” Or so we think. We actually invite our greatest fears into our lives when we resist them so strongly (what we resist, persists). We are all prone to self-sabotage, because subconsciously we think the pain (betrayal, loss) is inevitable. We’d rather burn our house down than allow our stuff to be stolen; we’d rather “get [the pain] over with,” than be a sitting duck for the inevitable hurt. But this Scorpio New Moon Solar Eclipse can help us stop doing that — or at least help us do it less! There’s a new love story afoot — one in which indeed, ain’t nobody humpin’ around.
